Shell Technology Develop CO2 separator

Jakarta - Shell to develop the actual technology separating CO2 from gas. Teknoligi this can be applied to the development of gas fields that contain up to 90 percent CO2.

According to Vice President Bill Spence Shell CO2, this technology combines three methods of gas separation is the separation of solid CO2 (Cyrocell), the separation of liquid CO2 (Condensed Contaminant Centrifugal Separation) and the use of membrane (Membrane Sapo).

"Currently we are building large scale test loop in Canada. Dikondisikan Loop can with the real situation in the oil and gas field. We hope this loop can expect to operate in 2011 and has been applied to the commercial," said Bill in a roundtable discussion in PT Shell Indonesia Hotel Mulia, Jakarta, Rabu (4/3/2009).

President Director and Country Chairman of PT Shell Indonesia Darwin Silalahi says Shell continues to develop the technology for CO2 separation in the preparation of oil and gas in the future. Shell predicts that oil and gas production in the year 2013-2015 will be on the field-a difficult field.

"In 2004, 60 percent of oil and gas production comes from our traditional. But in 2013-2015, 60 percent of our oil and gas will come from a heavy oil field," said Darwin.

Darwin said, Shell is a company that was most mengalokasi funds to develop the technology.

"Many of us spend the money for technology," he explained.

Darwin states at this time in the field-field matrix that CO2 is high, the cost pemisahannya reach 60-70 percent of capexnya.

"With this technology, it is expected that costs could go down," he said.

Darwin add CO2 if contamination can be reduced, the volume of gas sold will be more.

"If we can reduce the contamination, it will be 35 percent more gas sold and the production cost will be cheaper," he said.

One of the gas field in Indonesia who need technology separating CO2 is the Natuna D Alpha containing CO2 to 70 percent.

Development now lies in the middle of Pertamina seek partners. Shell Indonesia is one of eight companies that are middle Pertamina to become a partner.
